Abstract

The demand for video streaming applications to mobile devices is increasing greatly but this task is not simple, since mobile devices have lots of limitations, like the low wireless network bandwidth and the limited graphics resources. In this thesis a solution for this problem is proposed. The solution is based on utilizing a GPU-based image zooming algorithm, called the pyramid zooming algorithm, on the mobile device. This zooming algorithm provides a way to send less data ( compressed small resolution images) to the mobile device to overcome low wireless network bandwidth, while maintaining a high quality upscaled final image. An application was developed to examine the solution proposed and constantly high frame rates were achieved on the mobile device.
