Kurzfassung

Recently, technology for very large high-resolution screens is becoming more and more affordable, which promises that such screens will be used for daily office work in the near future. However applications and operating systems are not yet ready to unleash the full potential of interaction with such screens. Therefore this thesis explores how interaction on large high-resolution displays can benefit from being augmented by eye-tracking. The main contribution of the thesis is the experimental verification of an interaction technique called MAGIC Pointing. The results of this experiment show that MAGIC pointing enhances overall user experience, reduces fatigue and that it is possible to achieve sufficent eye-tracking accuracy using cheap open-source hardware and software. Based on those results the next step would be the construction of a window manager for large high-resolution screens incorporating eye-tracking interaction. The thesis presents requirements and design considerations for such a window manager and introduces a selection of interaction techniques incorporating gaze input in a prototypical manner.
