Abstract

Digital Personal Assistant like the offerings from major tech companies like Amazon, Apple, and Google are seeing increased adoption rates as they near the end of their first decade of existence. Despite the backing of these companies, theses assistants remain restricted in the types of queries that they can provide answer to. Instead of being an intelligent assistant to users, the current trend shows a move to a new way to search and a focus of very specific experiences. This paper considers an alternative to how queries can be understood, temporal reasoning. With this type of enhancement, the possibilities for understanding and fulfilling user requests would become more various. This work thus seeks to investigate the application of Allen’s Interval Algebra on a potential user query. This is shown to provide some benefit and opens questions to its potential alternative applications and usage.
