Abstract | As Artificial Intelligence Planning applications see wider deployment, it becomes increasingly important to learn more about the progress and the developments. This paper provides an evaluation of the current state of the field in AI Planning through analysis of articles and citations occurring in the three conferences AAAI, ICAPS and IJCAI. This Citation Network Analysis represents nearly the entire history of the conferences from 2002 to 2020 inclusive. We aimed to identify the emergence of trends and hierarchies that are influencing the evolution of the field to date. 100 articles were taken from those conferences as source of primary data. These articles contained 714 references. In addition to this large network, other networks were created, such as the top 10 most cited articles for the entire period as well as for 2020. The results indicate that the community still places great value on the oldest publications. Topics such as Web Services, Path Planning in relation to multiple robots and improving the efficiency of plan generation are increasingly gaining prominence.
