Kurzfassung

In today's society, the globally increasing prevalence of overweight individuals and its associated health consequences present a serious medical challenge which demands attention. To address this challenge, we examined whether our novel approach to visualize fitness tracking data fosters more motivation for physical activity than conventional 2D on-screen visualizations. This approach involves the integration of gamification and augmented reality (AR) in ambient setups like ÄR bathroom mirrors". To investigate this question, we conducted a qualitative pilot study using our developed prototype. The findings of our study suggest that our approach could be able to enhance users' motivation to walk more by potentially evoking users' empathy for their digital pet. However, the results of our study are limited regarding some aspects, so they should be interpreted with caution. Furthermore, we propose ideas for future studies related to the topic investigated by this thesis.
