Kurzfassung

Context. As of today, the only source for location information on a 2-wheeler is through a Global Navigation Satellite System like GPS or Galileo. Although this is precise enough in most cases it also has some aws in specific situations. Those aws come to play in urban areas where the satellite signal can be de ected or blocked entirely. To overcome this issue, we want to integrate mobile phone localization into the 2-wheeler navigation process. Problem. Since we only want to use the assistance of the mobile phone localization on the 2-wheeler when it is necessary, there is a need of a metric that activates, respectively deactivates the mobile phone assistance accordingly. Objective. The main objective is to develop a metric that is capable of involving the mobile phone localization possibilities into the navigation process of the 2-wheeler. Subsequently, we create a prototype that utilizes the beforehand developed metric and test it against the as-is localization method on 2-wheelers. Method. To achieve our goal we firstly perform a non-systematic literature research to get to know the state of the art of GNSS navigation. Then, we develop an app that we use to gather information about the available types of data we might utilize later in the metric itself. Lastly, we build a prototype that implements the developed metric and conduct an evaluation against the as-is localization of 2-wheelers. Result. The evaluation of the prototype and the as-is navigation method on a 2- wheeler showed that the navigation of the 2-wheeler itself is sucient most of the time. However, in dense urban areas with narrow streets and big buildings the mobile phone assisted localization has advantages over the traditional localization method with GNSS only. Conclusion. With the proceeding spread of the Internet of Things coming to 2- wheelers, the mobile phone assisted localization is a promising possibility to bring better navigation to the 2-wheeler without adding any supplementary hardware costs for the manufacturer. However, in our test drives the navigation of the 2- wheeler was sucient in most cases.
