Abstract

Today’s data description languages describe data in an explicit way, so that software systems can process the data easily. The explicit description can become extremely complex, if a huge amount of data is described, especially if the data contains relations and conditions, which are not addressed by the language. Users of these languages are hooked on automated tools that generate the explicit data statements. This work addresses an implicit approach for data description, which offers the ability to express the relations and conditions of the data in the data description itself. Therefore constraints and implicit statements are introduced in the SmartFrog II data description language of Hewlett-Packard Laboratories Bristol and the application of this language is shown by example.
