Abstract

Nexus is a research project with the aim of developing an open platform for context aware systems. Context aware systems do consider the user position when retrieving the respective information from the system.

The project is based on a federated object oriented database which allows relationships between objects. The relationship is represented by an independent object storing the identifiers and the locators of the referenced objects. However, yet there is no information stored in some place to find this relationship when the search is triggered at one of the referenced objects.

The following work presents and compares several approaches on how to find all those objects referencing an object of particular interest. Furthermore, the referencial integrity of the developed models is examined. The models are based on return references, centralized or distributed indexes, or proximity.
