Kurzfassung

The diploma thesis is divided in two major parts. The first part shows the possibilities offered by IBM’s WBSF, a product that provides the business process runtime environment extensions to lookup and bind the most suitable partner service during runtime. Since the WBSF is an "empty" extension, it has to be filled with life. For this reason IBM offers so-called industry packs with industry-specific standard-based services. The task is to incorporate the WBSF in a SAP environment and make SAP functionality available externally by a vendor neutral layer. A prototypical implementation has to demonstrate the added value to a vanilla SAP business application and serve as starting point of an industry pack. Second, the WBSF puts some of the concepts that are part of Semantic Business Process Management (SBPM) into action. A widespread discussion shows the advantages and disadvantages of the approach taken by the WBSF and relates the range of functionality to the methods and concepts emerging from the Semantics Utilised for Process Management within and between Enterprises (SUPER) research project. This EU financed project deals with all aspects of SBPM and tries to establish a comprehensive semantic enabled framework for business processes.
