Kurzfassung

In an increasingly interconnected world, the issue of data privacy is taking on a new importance. Like all other personal information, people realize the need to keep location information private too. One approach to user location privacy is obfuscation, to degrade the users' location information such that it hides the details while still being useful to the receive the users' required services. A decentralized obfuscation approach based on secret sharing between multiple parties was developed. This approach considered only the sporadic location update model. The main work of this thesis is to extend this approach for use with continuous location updates. Continuous location updates pose some additional risks to location privacy since multiple updates can be linked together to mine information that the user intends to keep private. We will study the dangers of continuous location updates with the above approach and propose the use of selective spatial and temporal obfuscation for certain updates that are deemed unsafe to disclose directly. We will also study the correlation between multiple updates and propose a method that will check for correlation and skip updates to maintain privacy of updates.
