Kurzfassung

Continuous advances in technology have brought numerous improvements to the way we obtain the information we need. Up to this day, it is not unusual for people to carry mobile devices such as smartphones which can perform a diverse set of tasks. Sensing is one of these. Existing smartphones can be fitted with light, temperature or air pollution sensors; they have GPS and high-speed internet connectivity and can stay online all the time. As a consequence, their sensing power, especially in large numbers, represents a rich source of data. With the help of an internet connection, these measurements can be centralized and processed to obtain new information. The information value obtained when data from different locations is centralized becomes much higher. New useful information can be drawn from this pool of data. In this project we leverage the sensing power provided by mobile devices carried by humans in order to obtain discrete measurements. These, in turn, will be used to infer measurements at locations where no sensing has been done, thus creating a continuous pattern of measurements. Our approach will be simulated with realistic input data and the results will be discussed.
