Abstract

In business world scenarios, there are possibilities of acquisitions of companies or insourcing of organizational units for the purpose of monetary gains, increase in control and security and to optimize transactional costs. In such scenarios, there arises a need to have an uniform process organization. To attain this objective, the interacting business processes of partner companies need to be consolidated into a single process. Interaction of business processes of partner companies can be modelled by choreographies. When processes are consolidated, they result in additional control links which relate activities originating from different processes. In some cases, the interacting business processes might contain loops and when such processes are consolidated, the additional control links might cross loop boundaries. Workflow languages that support activitybased loops do not allow control links to cross loop boundaries. These links which are known as cross-boundary violating links causes the consolidated process to become invalid. Thus, this thesis contains an approach for consolidating interacting business processes which contains loops. For this purpose, different types of loops are identified and classified and appropriate merging approaches are presented. These approaches identify and resolve cross-boundary violating links. Furthermore, we validate these approaches by applying them to Service Interaction Patterns-based choreographies.
