Hardly any industry is under strong competitive pressure like the automotive industry. The vehicles must be brought to market as quickly as possible with consistent quality and shorter product cycles. This is due to the constant cycle of innovation and improvement. More than 90% of customer requirements are dominated by software implemented. Thus, a cross-functional environment has built up in the automotive world shaped by mechanics, consisting of the other areas of electrics and electronics. The networking of these areas leads to increased technical complexity. This must be taken into account in the release planning of safety-critical systems, as the automobile is to be classified. All involved disciplines and their technical dependencies have to be united and validated into a functioning whole. Thus, for example, the control unit software is tested in conjunction with the associated control unit and vice versa. The difficulty arises when the subsystems have their own release cycles and completion dates. On the one hand, they can be strongly based on the milestone structure, and thus be handled classically. On the other hand, the introduction of agile methods in the automotive environment, especially in software environments, leads to faster deliverable product increments. The different release cycles of the subsystems and their dependencies make it difficult for the qualification phase to run smoothly in the network. The aim of this work is to identify these challenges in release planning in the automotive environment. For this purpose, a study with experts from the automotive or automotive similar environment will be carried out in order to reflect the state of the market.
