Abstract

The aim of this work, was to parallelise an existing FEM-code, written in Fortran 90, using OpenMP. This code proved to scale very well on a SGI Origin 2000 system installed in Manchester, where this work was accomplished.

In the compiler, several deficiencies regarding auto-parallelisation and conformity with the OpenMP-specification, were found. So, a lot of hand-optimisation and work-arounds had to be put into the code to get it to scale well.
