Kurzfassung

Simulation is an interdisciplinary topic, which connects Computer Science to other scientific fields. For example, Geophysics uses Computer Science for simulating wave propagation in media. The functional model of such simulations consists of partial differential equations (PDE) describing the velocity and pressure in the medium over the considered period of time. In this work, irregular staggered grids are used to model the medium. These grids offer a good stability in the calculations and flexibility for covering arbitrarily shaped and possibly heterogeneous media, with a minimum of discretizations. To solve the partial differential equations modeling the wave propagation, an interpolation method is needed. This method should deliver an interpolation function that is smooth, has accurate derivatives and is efficient enough to be computed in manageable time. In this work we chose the natural-neighbour interpolation, which is based on the concept of natural-neighbour coordinates.
