Kurzfassung

Abstract Swarm robots are still an extensive field of research. In this context the Jasmine platform is one of the best platforms to study swarm behavior. The mechanics are easy and affordable, such that large scale swarms can be produced with reasonable costs. Yet the main processing units on the Jasmine are suffering from old age. The main processing units are running at a slow 8 MHz and are divided over two boards. Also communication and sensors are limited. A first attempt to address this problem was made with the development of the Jasmine Cortex-board, increasing not only the amount of available sensors but also the communication capabilities. Yet there were some problems in the initial design. This study is based on the initial design, addressing the problems with the Cortex-board and furthermore fusing the other two controller boards with the Cortex-board into one main board. With the new design not only will the Jasmine platform receive an up to date main processing unit but also new sensor and communication capabilities are added, widening the area in which the Jasmine robot can be used as a research platform.
